Rei has short dark blue hair with his bangs swept to the side of his face. He has blue eyes that are normally half closed; when they are fully open, it usually means he is hiding behind his mask. He wears Kibou High's winter uniform, which consists of a white T-shirt, a black long sleeved jacket, and black slacks. In addition, he wears a ring on his left thumb to control his powers, and a glove over the same hand to further restrict himself. When he first appeared, he wore a black long coat instead of his jacket.
After Arata hears about Mizusawa's progress from the rest of Fukui's team, Shinobu challenges him to a game, but he declines, stating it is a day for team matches. Meanwhile, everyone is so focused on Misuzawa's match that they hardly notice Hokuo getting defeated by Fujisaki. Yusei ends up losing his match but Kana manages to win hers, easing the pressure. Taichi then wins his match, though Chihaya is put under pressure when Megumu takes her 'Chihayafuru' card. Chihaya narrowly loses her match against Megumu, bringing the game to 2-2, with Tsutomu and his opponent with one card each left. After a rough series of dead cards, Tsutomu manages to take the win with a gamble, taking Misuzawa to the finals against Fujisaki. As Chihaya becomes frustrated as to how she could've done better, Taichi shows her her own nail marks in her hand, showing how much strength she had been using, whilst Kana asks Akihiro to play in her stead due to her accumulated tiredness.

While not using her electricity powers, her common weapon of choice is a gun that looks like a M79 grenade launcher as her main firearm throughout the story. It seems to be her favorite weapon since she is constantly using it while the others (aside Ibara) change their weapons frequently, she is good at handling it, never missing her target with her weapon of choice. She can even wield it with one hand.
Rika was born from an unknown family. Not much is currently known about Rika's childhood. In her high school years, Rika was being called for assistance numerous times by her peers for game development, film editor, and the like. Rika once stated that in exchange for her assistance, she asked her peers to purchase for her doujinshi from Comiket, in which she isn't able to reach due to her sickness when in crowds.
In a foggy nightmare, Taira looks for Ryōta and gets surrounded by several illusions of him all shouting negative things until he hears his son calls him. He wakes up to go outside to find the person, and when he sees Yuzuhiko on the ground, he tries to climb down the ladder only to fall. Yuzuhiko's illusion tells his father that he miss him, and Taira states that he does not have eight chips. Then, Akiho's illusion asks Taira to count the chips that Ryōta and Himiko have. Taira shouts deliriously that he come back home. Elsewhere in the forest, Ryōta and Himiko are walking faster to the observatory point to avoid the komodo dragons that are slowly waking up. When Ryōta hears something, he spots the Homing BIM that chases him. He trips and grabs a metal pole and uses to hit the BIM. Ryōta realizes that Taira is attacking them and demands Taira to stop. Ryōta smacks another Homing BIM only to have the BIM fall on the ground where it detonates within its target. Himiko rushes to Ryōta's side; she recalls what Shiki had told her earlier. Ryōta uses his radar to find Taira and wonders why Taira is attacking them. He recalls that Taira has been in agony when he fears being abandoned and alone. He thinks it's his fault for abandoning Taira and doing the same thing like his father. Reflecting back on his past, he thought adults were selfish, but he regrets it. Otonashi awakens only to learn he is dead. A rifle-toting girl named Yuri explains that they are in the afterlife, and Otonashi realizes the only thing he can remember about himself is his name. Yuri tells him that she leads the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife Battlefront) and wages war against a girl named Tenshi. Unable to believe Yuri's claims that Tenshi is evil, Otonashi attempts to speak with her, but the encounter doesn't go as he intended. Otonashi decides to join the SSS and battle Tenshi, but he finds himself oddly drawn to her.
